The broke cheapskates guide to learning

when knowledge is free with a little effort

It has been a while and a slump to find work. I really can't stress enough how much I think knowledge should be free and educators be compensated a living wage. But since graduating from the system, there has been a flurry of activities that I think a lot of the youth are missing out on.

For example, you guys can earn certifications online for free just double-check if your nation, education system, and school are signed up for it. I would have taken at least Microsoft 365 Fundamentals MS-900 Certification for free or Azure if you're heading into Tech. Check your government institutions if they provide scholarships for free.

During the pandemic, I checked my regional office's Facebook pages for job postings and found free training online. I submitted all requirements and now as a graduate, they have opened more MOOCs or Massive Open Online Courses available to all who apply. Some jobs will ask for L&D or Leadership and Development training and one such resource with a MOOC is the University of the Philippines' Open University. I am currently taking up Disaster Resilience and Gender Sensitivity Training to start.

But this is where I have a problem. I love learning and as you see these are all free with just some requirements. I just am still having trouble finding work even with all these learnings. If it isn't clear enough, I don't like doing something completely foreign to me so I tend to learn about stuff before doing it which admittedly takes a lot of time I could be learning on the job but not everyone is hiring without experience.

This last year of 2023, I completed the Google IT Support certification with Coursera as it was one of the first courses available to us graduates of DICT or the Department of Information, Communication, and Technology. Now looking to be a virtual assistant, I learned niches about sales and marketing which may not suit me. So here I am looking to be a bookkeeper, and the Facebook algorithm came flooding with paid courses on Excel, Quickbooks, Xero, etc. It doesn't jive with me but I am gung ho about learning for free so color me not surprised to learn that you can attend free seminars on Quickbooks or Xero just search for it online and webinars will pop up. Now passing the certification exam is a beast I am looking forward to wranggle.
